Due to my finished images, i really wanted to push the boat out and advertise my work. As my images are club based i wanted them to be advertised in a night club, to carry on with the theme. So as i work in a night club during weekends, i asked the managers if i could advertise my images on the screens on a Saturday night? That was thankfully granted and here what it had look liked:

Final Two Diesel Illustrations

My Final two Diesel Illustrations for the Daft Punk songs : 'Derezzed & Face to Face'.

Final Second Illustration

I am really happy with the outcome of the illustration. I think it advertises the chosen song well and also i think i have kept with the urban simplicity of the image.

Final Second Illustration

Design Concept

When that was done. I closely looked at my image and decided it needed something else.Something that would make my image stand out, so i decided to place a thin white border around my image to centralise everything.

As i was centralising everything i realised that the Diesel logo looked more professional in the centre under the number two, as i think this will take the viewers eyes to the centre of the image.

Design Concept

Using the selected font 'Argos Regular', i used it for the words 'face' on the silouetted heads.

Design Concept

Next step was to try and make my image looking like the brand i am advertising so i added the diesel logo png at the bottom right of my image, to make it looking professional.

Once i did that, I wanted to add the number two between the heads, so it positions itself with the name of the selected song 'Face To Face'.

Design Concept

Seen as i realised that i will be needing typography within my image, i wanted to start looking for some nice type that will go with my illustration so i looked on 1001 free fonts, where i found the font i was looking for 'Argos Regular'.

http://www.1001freefonts.com/ArgosRegular.php

Design Concept

This image i did the exact same as the first head.

Design Concept

Next i was to make a silouette head, but i realised, that i could use the existing head that is on my first illustration. So i copy and pasted the first head to my image.

Once that was done i painted the head with the brush tool, but i had to be careful i didnt make a mess of the neat outline of the head.

Design Concept

First i selected a new document and it came up with the usual background colour, which is 'white'. I the had to change it to black by simply using the bucket tool and painting it black.

Design Concept

I have chosen my design that i want for my final second illustration.Due to difficulties with my scanner i cant scan my sketch, but i have all the stages of me producing my illustration.

Design Concept

This was a design concept that i produced to advertise the song aswell as the be stupid theory.

After closely looking at it i think i have pointed out all the focal points with Diesel, Be Stupid theory and the song Human after all. But i just dont think its as professional as i want it to be. Sooooo on with the new Design Concept.

Next illustration Progress

Seen as i have finished my first illustration, I am needing to progress onto my second illustration.I have had many ideas of what to do. I just hope they can be fulfilled to produce another effective illustration.

Finished First Illustration

I am really happy with my final Illustration, i think this is using the selected artist/band and the selected song very well.

Step Four

Step Four: In these final steps i decided that it wasnt finished, so i gave the background image and the Diesel logo to give more of the Tron Legacy look this was simple with the Guassin Blur effect. After i did that it was clear i had to include the Diesel main logo and the song name within the image.

Step Three

Step Three: This step i concentrated within the background and used the well known tron blue for the baground image. Once that was done i realised that the blue would show up more on a black background, which in the end i turned out to be right.

Step Two

Step Two: The next step once the illustration was traced was to colour the helmets and use individual layers so this could be possible. I coloured the helmets to the right specif colours that they actually are but with a more cartoony twist.
The Image below, you can see that i carried on with the colouring of the tubes and the well known red colour for the Diesel logo.

Step One

Step One: The first thing i did was trace the scanned image, so i could progress on to the colour stage.

Progressing

After producing that sketch i thought it would be a crime not to carry on with it. So once i scanned it in to the computer i thought it would be a good idea to progress on the programme, illustrator.

Illustration Sketch

I thought really hard of what i could achieve with my illustrations. When looking at images of Daft Punk it came clear to me that with the robotic theme that Daft Punk give, i should use that within my illustration. This is on sketch that i produced and scanned in to the computer:
If you look at the image i have used the idea of using the robotic head of Daft Punk to connect and supply electricity to the Diesel logo. Also the background you can see i used the Tron Legacy theme for one chosen song Derezzed.

Daft Punk Images

Daft Punk

Guy-Manuel de Homem Christo (b. 8 February 1974) met Thomas Bangalter (b. 3 January 1975) when they both attended school in Paris, France, in 1987. In 1992, heavily influenced by the Beach Boys, they recorded a song under the name Darling, which in turn found its way onto a compilation single issued on Stereolab's Duophonic label. A review in the UK's Melody Maker described their effort as "a bunch of daft punk", which depressed the pair but unwittingly gave them a name for their next project.

Increasingly influenced by the house sounds filtering across from the UK and the USA, they signed with the Scottish label Soma Records and, in 1994, released the single "New Wave". However, it was their 1995 offering, an insanely catchy slice of techno /funk, "Da Funk", that really set the Daft Punk bandwagon rolling, especially when the Chemical Brothers spotted its floor-filling potential during their DJ sets.

One important factor in the duo's sound is that they are not dance music purists; neither had been to a dance club until 1992 and their music is as influenced as much by Roxy Music and the Ramones as it is by house and techno pioneers such as Laurent Garnier. There is also a strong streak of old-style disco running through their work; Bangalter's father wrote hits for Ottawan and the Gibson Brothers, and "Da Funk" is based around a riff from a vintage R303 bass machine. The re-release of "Da Funk" by Virgin Records, and the subsequent Homework, broke Daft Punk to an overground audience that had for too many years seen French pop as synonymous with crooners such as Johnny Hallyday. Bangalter's alter ego, Stardust, was responsible for "Music Sounds Better With You", one of the club anthems of 1998. After breaking so much new ground with their debut, the pressure was on the duo to repeat the success with their second album.

Discovery proved to be a far more commercial outing, allaying the hard house grooves of the debut with plenty of highly melodic retro synth-pop. Stand-out tracks "One More Time" (featuring Romanthony ), "Digital Love" and "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" were immediately hailed as new classics.

Chosen Artist

Once i had looked through the selected artists/bands, i have finally chosen the artist/band that would suit this project the best. The artist i have chosen to use to fulfill my illustrations is DAFT PUNK.
The reason i chose Daft Punk was because they have recently brought out their new song Derezzed in the Tron Legacy film. I thought the whole techno theme within Diesel would give it a new edge and era.

Planning

After researching long and hard, it is finally the time i chose an artist/band to do my illustrations on. I first came up with a few selections:
Bruno Mars, Daft Punk, JLS, Steve Angello, Axwell, Swedish House Mafia. Rhinna, David Guetta, Michael Jackson etc.

Diesel-Be Stupid Advertisement Boards

After looking at these Diesel 'Be stupid' advertisement boards, i have come to the conclusion of how clever the images actually are. Even without the Be Stupid phrase you can tell what theme it is advertising just by the stupid images within the photography. For example the woman standing on the ladder and showing her top half to the CCTV camera, which describes she has balls, but stupid has balls. I also think this is eye catching and quite humourous.

Be Stupid

As i was searching the Diesel website this is a video clip that i came across which they describe the theme 'STUPID' :

Diesel Stupid Philosophy

Like balloons, we are filled with hopes and dreams. But. Over time a single sentence creeps into our lives. Don’t be stupid. It’s the crusher of possibility. It’s the worlds greatest deflator. The world is full of smart people. Doing all kind of smart things… Thats smart.

Well, we’re with stupid. Stupid is the relentless pursuit of a regret free life. Smart may have the brains…
but stupid has the balls. The smart might recognize things for how they are. The stupid see things for how they could be. Smart critiques. Stupid creates. The fact is if we didnt have stupid thoughts wed have no interesting thoughts at all. Smart may have the plans… but stupid has the stories.

Smart may have the authority but stupid has one hell of a hangover. Its not smart to take risks… Its stupid.
To be stupid is to be brave. The stupid isnt afraid to fail. The stupid know there are worse things than failure… like not even trying.

Smart had one good idea, and that idea was stupid. You can’t outsmart stupid. So don’t even try. Remember only stupid can be truly brilliant.

So, BE STUPID

Diesel-Be Stupid

Diesel, the international jeans brand, is launching “Be Stupid“, a campaign that encourages consumers to take risks and move beyond the smart and sensible track for life. The campaign, developed at Anomaly London, includes online, press and outdoor advertisements featuring “stupid” acts, a digital recruitment campaign for the Diesel music video/2010 catalogue, and viral activity outlining the company’s Stupid philosophy.

At recruit.diesel.com Anomaly is looking for stupid acts to include in the up and coming Diesel Stupid Music Video. Starting a band, building a tree house or an art installation? Here’s the chance to be one of the 100 creative acts from around the world starring in the music video which will double as the 2010 Diesel catalogue.

Diesel Heritage

Beginning as a company focused on making quality clothing, Diesel has become part of the youth culture worldwide.

Diesel is an innovative international design company, producing a wide-ranging collection of jeans, clothing and accessories.

Diesel is a leader in pioneering new styles, fabrics, manufacturing methods and quality control to guarantee an outstanding product. The company is present in over 80 countries with over 5,000 points of sale and more than 300 monobrand stores (200 of which are company-owned and the rest in partnership with local distributors).

When Renzo Rosso founded the company in 1978, he wanted it to be a leader, a company that took chances and carved out a niche for itself in its field.
He surrounded himself with creative, talented people - innovators who, like him, rejected the slavish trend following typical of the fashion industry. He wanted to create the most dynamic and imaginative product available anywhere: he gave his openminded design team broad stylistic freedom, and their mission was to create an apparel line perfect for independent people who follow their own unique path in life and for those style-makers who express their individuality by the way they dress.

From the very beginning, Diesel's design team, headed by Creative Director Wilbert Das, turned their backs on the style-dictators and consumer forecasters of the fashion establishment and let their own personal tastes lead them.

The company views the world as a single, border-less macro-culture, and the Diesel staff reflects this:
a cosmopolitan team that creates an unpredictable, dynamic vitality and energy within the company.
Diesel "people" and their working methods are so unconventional, albeit productive, that they have been profiled in countless media, and have been studied by international consulting organizations and universities.

After reading through the selected briefs i specifically chose one brief, this being the Diesel brief.
The description of the brief is to choose a band or artist and create an illustrated response inspired by two of their tracks and demonstrate my vision to a whole new world for illustration in music.

To do this i will have start researching potential bands/artists that could take this project to another level, for which i am aiming for.
